Flower heads may include numerous varieties and colors.  Most flowers are very suitable for the candles, however there are several that do not work well, such as large white orchids, gardenias and some spider mums. In addition to the flowers, please include several stems of greenery also.


The freshest flowers make the most beautiful candles, AND

it's always better to send too many than not enough flowers!

At Flower Light Memories, we’re excited about the candles we create and are always happy to talk with our customers about how we can make their flowers into unique heirloom candles or electric candle lights.

1) Why does it take 4-6 weeks, from the time that you receive my flowers, for me to receive my order?
Your candle is a hand-crafted and custom made creation. The flower drying process takes several weeks. Your flowers are then carefully arranged within the wax walls of your candle light. There are also numerous finishing touches required before your heirloom candle is then ready for packing and shipping to you.

2) When do you charge my credit card?
Half of the total is charged upon receipt of your flowers so that we can begin the drying process.  The remaining balance is charged at the time that your order is shipped.

3) How many flowers do I need to send for each candle?
Our Flower Guide will help you determine how many flower heads we will need you to send us for each candle size that you choose.

Since flower heads can vary greatly in size, the numbers indicated in our Flower Guide were chosen to ensure that we will have ample flowers to create the most beautiful candles for you to enjoy for years to come.  Like food on our tables, it is always better to have too much than not enough!

4) What types of flowers work best in the candles?
Gerbera daisies, roses, lilies, carnations, callo lilies, delphinium, gladiolas, irises, statice, all greenery and most flowers dry very well and look beautiful in the candles. (When in doubt, send it anyway!)  Some very delicate flowers, such as alstromeriums and spider mums fall apart quickly.  And unfortunately, white orchids generally turn dark.

5) Are there any flowers that don’t work well in the candles?
Gardenias, some orchids and extremely dense flowers such as magnolias, do not typically dry well.

6) What are your most popular sizes?

One person, ordering for many family members often selects our medium and small size candles, however, brides generally order our tall oval or Aristocrat candle lights and smaller sizes for their mothers and attendants.   Our oval and hexagon shapes, (in all available sizes), are ordered more frequently than the round or square shapes.

7) Can you put  pictures in the candles?
Yes, we can put pictures in the candles, if you supply the picture according to the specifications that we can email to you.  If you decide on a picture, please call us and ask us to email you our "Pictures in Candles" file.   (For pet memorial candles, we typically use flowers from our own stock, and will need only the picture of your pet mailed to us).

8) What other types of memorabilia can you use in the candles?

We have created candles using quite a variety of memorabilia! Some of these examples are shown in the gallery section of our website. Shiny objects are not appropriate, as the wax will not adhere to the object. Also, if the size of the memorabilia is thicker than our candle wall thickness, it will not work. (Generally, the item should be no more than ¼” thick.

9) Can you use silk flowers in the candles?
Yes, we often use silk flowers in the candles. Plastic flowers do not work – again, the wax does not adhere to the plastic. Keep in mind also, that there are many different dye lots used in all silks, so it is possible that those dyes will “bleed into the wax”. Usually, this actually is quite pretty, however, occasionally, the dye can be very heavy and cause a total discoloration of the wax.

10) Where can I purchase replacement fuel cells and can I use the same size fuel cell in any candle?
We use 4 different size fuel cells in our candles. It is extremely important that the correct size fuel cell is used in each candle. You will find this information on the label on the bottom of your candle.
18 hour – petite size
35 hour – mini and small sizes
50 hour - medium sizes
90 hour – tall oval size

11) How do I know that my flowers are in the candles?
The flowers that you send to us are photographed as soon as they arrive at our shop. Those pictures are kept on file for 3 months after they have been shipped. We have absolutely no reason to use flowers other than those that you send us. It is very important that you ship your flowers to us exactly as we suggest. USPS Priority Mail with a Delivery notification and NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED.

Our mail is checked and received daily. If the U. S. mail carrier has to have a signature and there is no one available at that moment, he will take your flowers back to the Post Office, where they may sit for several more days, which we obviously, want to avoid.  Priority Mail is delivered within 2-3 days from anywhere in the 48 contiguous states during which time, if your flowers are packed, as directed, they will be in a slightly wilted condition which is perfect for the continuation of the drying process by us.

12) Can you make candles from previously dried flowers?

Yes, we can use previously dried flowers, as long as they are not molded and have not disintegrated beyond recognition. We have actually made a candle, using a flower that was 62 years old!  It had been pressed within the pages of a book and was very well preserved. Many flowers that are decades old still have their color and are able to be placed in a candle and enjoyed daily!

13) What if I want to order candles, but I don’t have my own flowers?
We have an assortment of previously dried flowers on hand that we can use to create any size or shape candle that you choose. Choice of flowers, including colors, will be at our discretion; however, if you will give us a general indication of colors you would like, we'll do our best to accommodate your request.

To order a candle, using our flowers, simply follow the same steps that you would, if you were sending your own flowers, but be sure to notify us in the comment section of your email that you will not be sending flowers, but would instead like us to use flowers from our stock.

14) Why are there small holes in my candles?
There will be small holes/air pockets in the wax walls and a small portion of some flowers may be exposed. This is normal - not a defect. It is due to the handcrafted nature of the product and the irregular flower petal surfaces, but does not detract from the beauty of the candle.

15) If my candle gets damaged or broken, can you repair it?
Yes, we can usually put “Humpty Dumpty” together again! We understand that your candle has tremendous sentiment attached to it. First and foremost, we encourage you to follow the instructions and guidelines that we suggest. However, we realize that accidents happen. In those rare instances, if you will email us a picture of the damaged candle, we should be able to determine what can be done. It may be necessary to melt and re-design your candle.  Sometimes, that is not necessary and a few little steps will do the trick. In either case, the main thing is
that your original flowers will still be displayed in your candle.

16) Where can I check my order status?
When you place your order with us, we send you the email address that you can contact or call us at our toll-free #. Please keep in mind that it takes several weeks for your flowers to dry.  It is generally 4-6 weeks before you should expect to receive and begin enjoying your  heirloom candle for years to come!

17) What are your hours of operation?
Our toll-free phone hours are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Central Standard Time Mon-Fri. We are closed on Sat and Sun. During non-business hours you may leave a message on our voice mail and a representative will contact you within 24 hours, excluding Saturday and Sunday.

18) Can I use more than a 4 watt bulb in my electric candles? If you are using an incandescent bulb, DO NOT use greater than a 4 watt bulb.  Fortunately, there are now many LED bulbs of all sizes available, which will not get hot and will provide more light and illumination of your flowers.  These are available at many stores i.e., hardware, grocery stores, etc.  They are more expensive, but last many hours and most importantly, will give you more light without melting your beautiful heirloom candle.
